For Rovers to once again qualify for Europe via the Intertoto Cup, they effectively need to finish above Aston Villa in the league, requiring Martin O'Neill's side to slip-up, but to take advantage, Rovers have to win their games against Derby County at Ewood Park this weekend at St. Andrews against Birmingham City the following week.
"We just need to fully concentrate on winning our last two games and let everyone else fight it over," said McCarthy ahead of Saturday's match against Derby.
"We aren't waiting for a miracle to happen, but we just need to win our two games and make sure that we are there and that someone slips up to open the door.
"That can only happen with us winning our two games, we just have to get six points from our last two games and then we'll see what happens."
McCarthy is an injury doubt for Saturday's game against Derby County after picking up a hamstring injury in training last week, but last season's top scorer has been working hard with the physios to put himself in with a chance of featuring against the league's bottom club.
"I hope to be fit," said the South African. "I've been coming in early and going home late in the hope that maybe I can get the thumbs up for Saturday.
"But if not then the team is fantastic and we are all looking forward to facing Derby County, it is a chance to get another victory.
"We want to send the fans home with smiles on their faces with the last game of the season at Ewood. (rovers' site).
With 2 strikers in form, Santa Cruz and Jason Roberts, and unmotivated Derby, i see a clear victory for Blackburn.
