After the defeat in Old Firm, the Blues again played weak in Sunday. In Scottish FA Cup semifinals, only after the penalty did the Ibrox side manage to eliminate second-league St. Johnston and provide the second finals spot this season. They will host Fiorentina at Ibrox on Thursday. Rangers fans still remember the defeat in Cup Winners Cup finals 1960/61, when Viola first celebrated 2:0 at Ibrox and then 2:1 in the returning leg. Walter Smith won’t be able to count on suspended Ferguson and Thompson who will watch the match form the stands. Injured McCulloch and McGregor will join them.
Viola won before the trip to Glasgow. Artemio Franchi saw Donadelo’s strike defeat Palermo which kept Fiorentina four points ahead of Milan. Atmosphere in the squad is excellent and everything points to the players giving their best to come back home unbeaten. Former Fiorentina man (who also wore Rangers jersey), Amoruso pointed out two things that favour Florence side over their rivals: First one is the teams spirit, since they have been playing great both in Europe and Italy during the whole season, and the second one is excellent Mutu who won in Eindhoven all by himself. As for the line up in Scotland, Prandelli won’t be able to count on suspended Donadelo and injured Semioli.
In the last three matches at Ibrox in UEFA Cup knock out stage, Rangers triumphed once and drew twice. Several times this season Blues managed to slow down the game and imposed the tempo, which certainly doesn't suit Fiorentina who like to compete on the pitch. I believe that the nest will be calm in this match and eventual goals could come as the result of Rangers defense's mistakes. Odds for under seem low, but it is the only safe option for this match.
